“2012 IAMAT-HAINAN Travel Medicine Scholarship” Application opens on 1st August, 2012
IAMAT (International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers) is pleased to announce its 2012 IAMAT-HAINAN Travel Medicine Scholarship, offering scholarship opportunities to doctors and nurses with an interest in travel medicine. The scholarship will enable successful recipients to participate in a three month, full-time travel medicine training program at Hainan Medical University, P. R, China.
The “2012 IAMAT-HAINAN Travel Medicine Scholarship” will provide recipients with an international and comparative study of travel medicine from both theoretical and practical perspectives to expand their knowledge and professional skills in the field. The scholarship courses include English for travel medicine, microbiology, immunology, environmental health, emergency medicine, epidemiology, disease prevention, international travel medical insurance, international travel and health, and food safety and hygiene.
Doctors and nurses who have an undergraduate degree, with excellent English speaking and writing skills, are available to attend the three months full-time training and their major is related to travel medicine. The candidate must demonstrate an excellent academic record.
Each successful recipient will receive a full three month training scholarship:
1. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and Course materials fee. The recipient is responsible for transportation costs, food, incidental fees, and personal expenses.
2. The scholarship training provides recipients with an in-depth knowledge and practice of travel medicine leading to opportunities in travel medicine certification and continuing medical education.
3. Scholars participate in IAMAT’s global network of doctors and health practitioners dedicated to helping travelers. Upon graduation, past scholarship recipients have returned to their home country to lend their expertise in travel medicine clinical best practices, teaching their colleagues, and expanding the network of IAMAT affiliated clinics around the world.
The Application Process:
Applying online is strongly encouraged. However, emailed or mailed applications will also be accepted. The application deadline is August 15, 2012. All applications are reviewed by the IAMAT-HAINAN Scholarship Committee.

You will be required to write essays (approximately 500 words) on your interest in travel medicine and intention for the IAMAT scholarship.

Introduction of IAMAT
Founded in 1960, IAMAT (International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers) is a non-profit organization dedicated to co-ordinating doctors around the world to assist travellers who require medical assistance in an unfamiliar place. Toward this end, IAMAT has participating physicians in more than 105 countries who speak English and have trained according to international health standards. IAMAT awards scholarships and grants to health care practitioners from low income countries to promote research and training in all aspects of travel medicine and health. Since 2002, IAMAT has awarded 17 scholarships to international scholars who trained at the University of Washington and the Kaiser Permanente Koolau and Honolulu clinics in Hawaii.
